Both the science major and humanities major in me liked this post, boss. I’ve always thought it important to think critically about causes and sources of everything, and I don’t think you can reasonably reduce in-depth analysis of such to “just a bunch of wanking”. I could rant for quite some time about my annoyance at this meme virus of macho anti-intellectualism and how it has infected many very intelligent people (especially, it seems, my fellow engineers)… but I’ll leave it at that.

And, for what its worth, I think you’ve got the amount of managerial pressure to apply pretty much right. I know I was worried about being fired/disappointing you and the others enough to modify my behavior when reprimanded, and I think you did a good job of teaching what was and what wasn’t appropriate behavior to unruly college students at their (often) first part-time job. I can imagine that it’s like herding drunken cats through a mine field, but, again, I think you’re doing it right. Just my $.02.

You just missed the nail. The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle in TESTABLE, the Halting problem is verified by logical analysis these are useful result. Deconstruction is an opinion and a particularly inane opinion in that it says that no matter how much you test a theory it can never be a given. You got to the point of accepting the best answer but didn’t make the small leap that deconstruction is just a bunch of wanking. How does it inform your life, in deconstruction’s own words: “in an unknowable way”. Point of fact it’s all a bunch of nonsense propagated by a bunch of closeted academics striving the justify their existence and salary; it is untestable, and adds no value to the human experience, it just a bloated load of rubbish.

1) the entry of phone numbers was not entirely voluntary, many faculty and staff had their phone numbers copied from unrelated directories.

2) robocalling probably can produce fucked up results like this given a combination of crappy robodialers in india and crappy local telco exchanges it just might be possible that the robodialer left the exchange in a stuck state

Still this is not your problem it is the problem of borked telco (they all are) and a rent-a-cop force with only half a clue.
